Impact of Gamma Radiation on Dynamic RDSON Characteristics in AlGaN/GaN Power HEMTs
2019
GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) are promising next-generation devices in the power electronics field which can coexist with silicon semiconductors, mainly in some radiation-intensive environments, such as power space converters, where high frequencies and voltages are also needed. Its wide band gap (WBG), large breakdown electric field, and thermal stability improve actual silicon performances. However, at the moment, GaN HEMT technology suffers from some reliability issues, one of the more relevant of which is the dynamic on-state resistance (R) regarding power switching converter applications. In this study, we focused on the drain-to-source on-resistance (R) characteristic…
Least squares and genetic algorithms for parameter identification of induction motors
2001
Abstract This paper deals with off-line parameter identification of induction motors by means of least square (LS) techniques and genetic algorithms (GA), using stator voltages, stator currents and velocity as input–output data. For analytical identification by LS algorithms, filtering of experimental data is performed by means of anticausal filters. Two models useful for identification are derived in which the products of acceleration and rotor fluxes, usually neglected, are taken into account. The GA-based identification method consists of the determination of the best parameters which match input–output behaviour of the motor. Both methods are investigated and compared by means of experi…
Influence of hole transport material ionization energy on the performance of perovskite solar cells
2019
Halide perovskites have shown excellent photophysical properties for solar cell applications which led to a rapid increase of the device efficiency. Understanding the charge carrier dynamics within the active perovskite absorber and at its interfaces will be key to further progress in their development. Here we present a series of fully evaporated devices employing hole transport materials with different ionization energies. The open circuit voltage of the devices, along with their ideality factors, confirm that the former is mainly determined by the bulk and surface recombination in the perovskite, rather than by the energetic offset between the valence band of the perovskite and the highe…
Experimental Validation of Maximum Constant Boost Control and Switching Frequency Optimal for three-phase Quasi-Z-Source Converters
2020
This paper presents a modified modulation scheme for quasi-Z-Source converters, based on the Maximum Constant Boost Control (MCBC) concept and Switching Frequency Optimal (SFO) as reference signal. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is validated by comparing the obtained results (in terms of AC harmonic content and voltage stress) with those carried out from traditional modulation schemes. For this reason, a test bench has been assembled and the benefits of the SFO MCBC modulation scheme have been valuated.
Li-ion Battery Modeling and State of Charge Estimation Method Including the Hysteresis Effect
2019
In this paper, a new approach to modeling the hysteresis phenomenon of the open circuit voltage (OCV) of lithium-ion batteries and estimating the battery state of charge (SoC) is presented. A characterization procedure is proposed to identify the battery model parameters, in particular, those related to the hysteresis phenomenon and the transition between charging and discharging conditions. A linearization method is used to obtain a suitable trade-off between the model accuracy and a low computational cost, in order to allow the implementation of SoC estimation on common hardware platforms. The proposed characterization procedure and the model effectiveness for SoC estimation are experime…
Voltage Rise Issues and Mitigation Techniques Due to High PV Penetration into the Distribution Network
2018
Integration of photovoltaic systems (PV)into the low voltage (LV)grid is seen as a viable and globally accepted optionto meet the ever-increasing energy demands. However, the high PV penetration into the LV distribution grid has raised up many concerns for various stakeholders e.g. distribution company, industry partners, end users etc. The suddenchanges in the voltage level, is one of the main issues due to the reverse power flowfrom distributed energy sources to the grid, has significantly affected the behavior of the traditional LV grid. This paper has reviewed the impacts on voltage profile due to high PV penetration and different techniques used for mitigation these issues such as acti…
New High Voltage Interconnections with Islands in the Mediterranean Sea: Malta and Sicily. Analysis of the Effects on Renewable Energy Sources Integr…
2018
The present paper shows the benefits coming from the operation of the recent electrical high voltage (HV) interconnections between Sicily, Malta and mainland Italy. These new interconnections allow zonal prices of electricity considerably lower than in the past, ensuring greater flexibility to the system and a better integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). After briefly illustrating the two high-voltage electrical systems (Sicily and Malta), and having provided a description of the interconnection cable with Malta and its protection devices, the authors hypothesized two modes of operation (Sicily-Malta system islanded or interconnected to the rest of Europe). For the first case (isla…
Age-dependent epileptic encephalopathy associated with an unusual co-occurrence of ZEB2 and SCN1A variants.
2020
Mowat-Wilson syndrome is a genetic disorder associated with a variable phenotype including peculiar facial features associated with intellectual disability, epilepsy, language impairment, and multiple congenital anomalies caused by heterozygous mutation of the ZEB2 gene. The ZEB2 protein is a complex transcription factor that encompasses multiple functional domains that interact with the regulatory regions of target genes including those involved in brain development. Recently, it has been documented that ZEB2 regulates the differentiation of interneuron progenitors migrating from the medial ganglionic eminence to cortical layers by repression of the Nkx2-1 homeobox transcription factor. It…
Nonfullerene Polymer Solar Cells Reaching a 9.29% Efficiency Using a BODIPY-Thiophene Backboned Donor Material
2018
A conjugated polymer donor containing BODIPY-thiophene dyads in the backbone, P(BdP-EHT), combined with a low bandgap nonfullerene acceptor (SMDPP) consisting of carbazole and diketopyrrolopyrrole units linked with a tetracyanobutadiene acceptor π-linker, was used to design bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells. After the optimization of the donor to acceptor weight ratio and solvent vapor annealing of the P(BdP-EHT):SMDPP active layer, the resulting polymer solar cell showed an overall power conversion efficiency of 9.29%, which is significantly higher than that for the polymer solar cell based on PC71BM (7.41%) processed under identical conditions. This improved power conversion efficie…

2002
The purpose of the article is the description, considerations of design and presentation of experimental results of a high current (1000 A) and low voltage (up to 15 V) converter for the excitement of superconducting corrector magnets in particle accelerators. The power source, which is based on a ZVT converter, presents high efficiency, small output ripple, excellent regulation of line, and fulfilment of the EMC normative (VDE 0871 A).
